Giove
By car, Giove is only about 15 minutes up the road from Attigliano. The town takes its name from the Roman god Jupiter (Giove in Italian). Its medieval castle, Castello di Giove, still dominates the skyline and though privately owned, remains a symbol of the town’s history.
We often went up to Giove to use the swimming pool of a couple Laura and Robert had befriended a few years back. Both are professors of ancient Rome and currently partaking in a massive excavation in the nearby town of Interamna Lirenas. They didn’t let on much about the dig, but were very kind in letting us visit. Around midday, the pool was a refreshing relief from the sweltering Umbrian heat. Isabella invented (and mischievously adapted) countless pool games here.
